When Julie Greenham hit her 40s, she realized something most people are afraid to admit out loud.

She had everything. A successful business. A loving family. A full calendar.

But something still felt off. She wasn’t fulfilled. She was burned out. And she was tired of pretending everything was fine.

In this episode of Coaching with Impact, Fifa Tran sits down with Julie to unpack the subtle signs of burnout, the danger of being the “nice” coach, and how reclaiming your personal power can help you build a life and business you actually enjoy.

When “Nice” Becomes a Liability

Being a kind coach isn’t the problem. It’s when kindness turns into overextending, overgiving, and overserving that it becomes a real issue.

Julie opens up about the early days of her coaching journey: saying yes to everything, bending over backward to please clients, taking discovery calls that lasted hours, and never setting clear expectations.

And she’s not alone. Many new coaches fall into this trap, thinking that more access and more time equals more impact.

But the truth? It leads to burnout and forgettable coaching.

“A nice coach might be loved,” Julie says, “but a great coach transforms lives.”

Personal Power Starts with Boundaries

Julie shares a game-changing mindset shift: You’re not responsible for your client’s results; you’re responsible for showing up in your power and holding space for theirs.

That means setting boundaries without guilt. Having honest, sometimes uncomfortable conversations. And knowing that your job isn’t to rescue your client, it’s to guide them back to their own power.

This conversation dives deep into what makes a coach truly magnetic. It’s not about how many calls you offer or how fast you respond. It’s about owning your worth, standing firm in your values, and trusting your clients to rise to the occasion.

3 Shifts to Become a Magnetic (and Impactful) Coach

1. Stop Confusing “Support” with Saving

Many coaches fall into the trap of over-giving because they tie their worth to their clients’ success. But as Julie learned:

  • You’re responsible for showing up fully, not for the results.
  • Great coaching means empowering clients to trust themselves, not depend on you.

Try this: Before jumping to solve a client’s problem, ask: “What do YOU think is the next step?”

2. Set Boundaries That Elevate Your Coaching

Julie’s turning point? Realizing that boundaries aren’t selfish, they’re necessary for sustainable impact. Now, she:

  • Keeps sessions to their scheduled time
  • Doesn’t answer messages outside work hours
  • Recommends “Too Much” by Terry Cole for codependency healing

Client surprise: Her business grew more when she stopped being available 24/7.

3. Embrace Imperfection (It’s Your Superpower)

Many coaches fear showing vulnerability, worrying: “If I’m not ‘fixed,’ how can I help others?” But Julie’s transparency, like sharing her journey through divorce or parenting challenges, deepens her client connections.

“People don’t need a perfect coach. They need a real one.”

Showing Up Real (Even When Life Gets Messy)

One thing that stands out about Julie? She doesn’t pretend to have it all figured out. She’s honest about the fact that personal growth is ongoing and that her own life still throws curveballs.

She shares how she stayed grounded and present with clients even during a tough personal season, when her son made a life-changing decision. Instead of shutting down or hiding it, she used it as an opportunity to show what it really looks like to lead with integrity and resilience.

Julie doesn’t just talk about authenticity. She lives it. Whether it’s in her coaching sessions, her email marketing, or the way she shares her stories online.

(Pro tip: Her emails are some of the most human, binge-worthy emails in your inbox. They’re proof that when you blend honesty with brand strategy, your content builds real connection.)

Finding Alignment in Business

Julie is also a huge advocate for building your business in a way that actually fits your energy. Not every coach needs to be on social media every day. Not every strategy requires 10 funnels and a million templates.

Whether you’re crafting a new offer, launching your WordPress website, or revamping your web design, Julie reminds us that alignment trumps aesthetics. (Though we’re big fans of great website design around here, too.)

If freedom, fulfillment, and flow are part of your version of success, then you’ll love what she has to say about tuning out the noise and doing business your way.

Decide You’re All In.

Julie’s parting advice is simple: Decide that you’re great at what you do.

Because the moment you stop playing small and start owning your magic, the right clients will show up and they’ll rise to meet you at your level.
