Have you ever felt stuck in a career that pays well but leaves you empty? Or hit a wall where burnout, self-doubt, or procrastination keeps you from reaching your potential?

If you’re nodding along, this episode is for you.

That’s exactly where Cody Dacquay found himself. So he left a steady career behind and chose to rebuild a life that felt like his own.

In this episode of Coaching with Impact, I sat down with Cody, a performance coach for founders and high performers, to talk about what it really means to recover from burnout and build something meaningful. This isn’t about working harder. It’s about doing the work that matters and creating a business that gives more than it takes.

When Everything Looks Fine But Still Feels Wrong

Cody’s story starts where a lot of us end up: on paper, things looked good.

He had a steady job as a mechanic, a house by 19, financial security. A routine. Stability. But inside, something was missing.

Eventually, he made a bold move. He walked away from it all, moved into a camper van, and started over; this time, on his own terms.

“I didn’t have a grand plan,” he admits. “I just knew I couldn’t keep living the way I was.”

That leap led him to coaching, where he now helps others navigate their own turning points.

The Burnout Breakdown (and How to Bounce Back)

Most high achievers don’t even see burnout coming, until they’re already in it. Cody’s been there, and he shared what helped him turn things around.

Subtle Signs You Might Be Burning Out:

  • You wake up tired, no matter how early you sleep.
  • Work feels like a chore, even the stuff you used to love.
  • You keep putting off things that once lit you up.

Cody’s Go-To Strategies for Getting Back on Track:

  • Lean Into Discomfort
Cold showers. Intense workouts. Having that convo you’ve been avoiding.
Cody believes small daily challenges build real resilience.
“Stress only breaks you if you let it,” he says.
  • Guard Your Energy Like It’s Your Full-Time Job
Forget time management. Cody swears by energy management.
What does it mean? Stop being busy just to be busy. Do more of what actually fuels you.
  • Ask Yourself This One Simple Question
    “Will Future Me regret this?”
It’s the filter Cody uses when making tough choices. And it rarely steers him wrong.

Why Comfort is the Enemy

Here’s the hard truth: Growth happens outside your comfort zone.

It’s easy to stay in routines that feel safe. You wake up, do your to-do list, scroll a little, maybe check off a few goals…. and repeat. But deep down, you know something’s missing.

That’s what Cody realized. Life was fine on paper, but he didn’t feel fully alive.

“We live in a world where you can get food, friends, and even therapy delivered to your door,” he said with a smile. “But if everything is always convenient, when do we ever stretch ourselves?”

Comfort is sneaky, it convinces you to settle. But growth doesn’t come from staying where it’s safe. It comes from leaning into discomfort and doing the hard things on purpose.

For Cody, that meant stepping away from the familiar and choosing challenge over certainty. Whether it was cold plunges, uncomfortable conversations, or stepping into the unknown with his career, those moments forced him to grow in ways he never would have inside his comfort zone.

His advice? Start small. Do one thing every day that makes you a little nervous. It could be saying no when you usually say yes. Speaking up. Asking for help. Launching the thing before it’s perfect.

That’s where real transformation begins. Not in the hustle, but in the courage to stretch beyond what feels easy.

Cody’s story proves something powerful: Sometimes, the bravest thing you can do isn’t a giant leap, it’s listening to that small voice telling you there’s more out there.
