Breaking Free From Comfort
My Experience with Imposter, Interrupted’s first event: Meet Your Media Mentor
Sometimes it takes us traveling outside our comfort zone, to discover the abilities, we never knew we had.

Are you Ready to Take a Dip in Unfamiliar Waters?
Following your dreams takes initiation, persistence and GRIT.
Do you give yourself permission to follow your dreams?
This is exactly why when @imposterinterrupted posted a Meet your Media Mentor event last week, I didn’t hesitate and signed up right away.
It’s basically an event where 5 successful women from the media sit, get asked questions and mentor for 15 min per table and then rotate. Kind of like speed dating, but not really.
The 5 Boss Babe Mentors
- Sarah Deshaies, Morning producer at CJAD 800 AM
- Sophia Salador, Senior Associate Producer at Just for Laughs
- Jessica Rusnak, Sports Columnist at CBC
- Kimberley Sullivan, Weather Specialist at Global TV Montreal
- Karin Eldor, Senior Contributor at Forbes and Teen Vogue
The Experience

I won’t lie, I had absolutely NO idea what to expect and when I arrived last night, there were soooo many people in the room, I didn’t know where to sit.
I decided to sit at a table where one woman was sitting alone. At first she said she was reserving the seat for friends but then allowed to join her. We talked and got to know eachother but she actually ended up being in the wrong room and just left. I was then left alone to sit awkwardly and pretending to be busy on my phone while everyone else was chatting away.
Once the event actually started though, people shuffled around and started to join my table.
Only after that did I start to feel a little more at ease once I started to get to know the girls at my table. I must say though, I was able to meet so many amazing people last night and even though it was weird at first, it ended up being one of the coolest events I’ve attended thus far.

Why would I put myself in a situation like this?
Because I know that in order for me to grow my business, I need to put myself out there, form relationships with as many people as I can and expand my network.
To reach new heights, I know that putting myself in uncomfortable situations is necessary for my own personal growth.
But I know as I continue to go to more of these events, it will only get easier with time.
I actually met a 16 year old last night! How amazing is this girl? She’s literally in sec. 5 and putting herself out there, meeting new people and an introvert portraying as an extrovert in order to grow but totally killing it! Incredible.. what ambition!
It seriously got me thinking.. what was I doing at 16? I was playing games haha..
But I must admit, I was pretty nervous. I was shy and felt really uncomfortable sitting there alone. I’m not good at just going up to random strangers and starting conversations. It’s something I need to work on but I’m learning everyday!
Key Takeaway
From all the mentors I was able to meet and listen to, most of them told us this;
If you really want it, you need to work for it.
This means constantly stepping out, doing MORE, volunteering, settling for a lower salary or pay cut and saying YES to as many things as possible.
Say yes and figure it out as you go along.
All of these women did what it took for them to get to where they are today. Sometimes you may be doing something completely unrelated to your line of work or field of study. And that’s perfectly normal.
The average person has 5 career changes throughout their life.
The key is to experiment, experiment, EXPERIMENT!
What did you do recently that pushed you to do something uncomfortable but was totally worth it in the end?
