Trying out Skillshare & Picking Up My First Skill of The Month

If you guys had already read my last blog post, I mentioned that one of my goals this year would be to pick up a new skill every month. That being said, I’ve decided my new skill to learn this month would be learning how to handle a DSLR camera. Until recently, I purchased a brand new Canon T6i and have not yet had the chance to dig deeper on actually learning to properly use the camera to its full extent. At the beginning I did begin to play around with it. I took a few shots and tried recording but it quickly ended there. I didn’t know the basics, gave up and focused on other things. My bf however had a good basic knowledge on the fundamentals and taught me a quick few things here and there.

One of the things I want to do this summer is take out the camera and explore Montreal with my friend while taking pictures together since she recently bought a new camera as well. My bf can then practice Photoshop by editing our photos and finally start building his own portfolio to showcase.

That’s the plan.

So I thought, where should I begin? Well, I had the option of reading articles, watching Youtube videos, reading books or taking online courses. Since Skillshare was providing a 2 month trial for only a buck, I decided why not? And that’s where I began to dive into the fundamentals learning about shutter speed, aperture and exposure. Quite interesting if I do say so myself.

I honestly like the whole Skillshare platform. I find it’s very neat, user-friendly and videos are short and go straight to the point. At least, that has been my experience so far with the 2 video courses I recently completed. Just think of it as the Netflix of learning. You pay monthly to get access to over 19,000 classes whereas Udemy is a pay-per-course type of platform. I also use Udemy for some other more in-depth classes like learning Photoshop however I haven’t yet had the chance  to compare against the two.

I am really excited now to use my new camera and apply what I’ve just learned. Once I do, I’ll showcase some of my photos here and let me know what you think! Since I just bought a new laptop (getting it next week!), next month’s new skill to pick up with probably be to learn how to photo edit on Photoshop. I’ll definitely keep you guys posted on that!

By continuously pushing yourself to learn and experience new things every day, you will begin to give your life more meaning and purpose. You will feel like a new person and crave for more. You will build momentum and want more for yourself. You will challenge your brain and take it to new heights. Remove it from idle mode and allow it to grow. These are just some of the benefits of learning and I would love you guys to follow on my journey to build the life that you want to love.

If you guys are interested in trying out Skillshare for yourself. I`ve posted a link below for you to get 2 free months of Skillshare Premium!

Live in the moment and always strive for more.
